Store-Bought Whitening VS Teeth Whitening From Your Dentist

Store-Bought Whitening VS Teeth Whitening From Your Dentist

Teeth whitening can be a fast and effective way to brighten your smile, but it's important to note that not all teeth whitening treatments offer the same results. Today our Delta dentists share some of the differences between store-bought and professional teeth whitening systems.

Teeth whitening can be an easy way to help remove stains and improve the overall appearance of your teeth. We know that you'll want to achieve the best possible results from your treatment, so which teeth whitening system should you use?

Store-Bought Whitening Treatments

There are a vast array of teeth whitening systems on the shelves of supermarkets and pharmacies. While these store bought whitening treatments contain stronger bleaching ingredients than whitening toothpaste, and will whiten your teeth somewhat, they typically aren't as effective as the professional whitening treatments available from your dentist.

Store bought whitening treatments tend to offer a 'one size fits all' whitening treatment, that can't offer custom-fitted whitening trays or the added security of having your dentist monitor your results.

Whitening Treatments From Your Dentist

At Ladner Village Dental our dentists can provide you with whitening gels that contain stronger bleaching agents than those typically found in store bought whitening treatments. Meaning that whitening treatments from your dentist may be able to brighten your smile faster and more effectively than store-bought treatments.

Our dentists are pleased to offer professional teeth whitening treatments that you can use in the comfort of your own home. Here's how our whitening treatments work:

  • Make an initial appointment to visit our office so that your dentist can make impressions of your teeth which will be used to create your whitening trays. Custom trays fit your smile precisely, allowing the whitening solution to sit right where you want it. These whitening trays are so thin that you will even be able to talk and work while wearing them!
  • When you return to our office for your second appointment you will be given your custom whitening trays, teeth bleaching materials, and full instructions for using the treatment. These instructions will provide you with details on how to apply the gel and how long you need to use the whitening treatment each application.

Choosing to whiten your teeth under the professional guidance of our team may be safer than using store bought products. Our dental professionals are trained to spot and treat the side effects that are sometimes experienced by patients during the whitening process.
